Mark John Stewart appointed Chair, Board of Directors of Bay Area Health Trust



Hamilton, ON - On April 4, 2023, at the Bay Area Health Trust's (BAHT) Annual General Meeting, Mark John Stewart was appointed as Chair of the Board of Directors. Mark John is Managing Director of Wentworth Strategy Group and was first appointed to the Board in 2019, and most recently served as Vice-Chair, and Chair, HR and Governance Committee. Alongside Mark, Sandy Schwenger, CEO of m-Health Solutions, was appointed as Vice Chair and Chair, HR and Governance Committee. Past-Chair Norm Col remains a Board member and Chair of the Finance, Audit, and Risk Committee.

The AGM and Board appointments follow the successful opening of the Trust's new headquarters at 66 Innovation Drive in Hamilton, ON. The new headquarters is a new state-of-the-art facility custom designed to support innovation, life sciences, and healthcare commercialization. The facility enables BAHT to accelerate execution of its growth strategy, create jobs, and provide both current and future clients state-of-the-art equipment, clean rooms, and inventory management systems. The new facility significantly increases BAHT's capacity to support Canadian clinical research studies to further better patient care and features:

  • Expansion to 19,000 sq. ft.

  • Increase of 45% in 2–8-degree storage capacity with the new 345 sq ft cold room.

  • An almost 100% increase in storage capacity with the ability for rack storage.

  • Doubled packaging area.

  • Two dock level receiving bays.

The opening, held on Friday, March 17, 2023, was attended by staff, board members, community members, partners, and many dignitaries including:

  • Hon. Filomena Tassi, MP (Hamilton West- Ancaster-Dundas), Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario

  • Hon. Neil Lumsden, MPP (Hamilton East-Stoney Creek), Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sport

  • Dan Muys, MP (Flamborough-Glanbrook)

  • Rob McIsaac, President and CEO, Hamilton Health Sciences
